Who is Rick Gonzalez?

Rick Gonzalez was born in New York City USA, on 30 June 1979 – his zodiac sign is Cancer and he holds American nationality. He is an actor and a musician, who is perhaps best known for his portrayal of Timo Cruz, one of the lead characters in the biographical sport movie “Coach Carter” in 2005, written by Mark Schwahn and John Gatins, directed by Thomas Carter, and which starred Samuel L. Jackson and Robert Ri’chard. The movie follows coach Ken Karter who stops his high school basketball team from competing in their league after they break the academic contract they signed with him – the movie won three awards and was nominated for 15 others.

Early life, family and education

Rick was raised as an only child in the Brooklyn neighborhood of New York City, by his Puerto Rican father who was a taxi driver, and his Dominican mother who was a cleaning lady – Rick’s parents divorced when he was 13 years old, but the family still remained somewhat close.

Rick started watching movies and TV series at the age of six, and would often perform at home for his parents, who then encouraged him to join his elementary school’s drama club. Rick then appeared in most of the plays performed at his school, and after being encouraged by his teachers, enrolled at the High School of the Performing Arts and successfully matriculated in 1997 – Rick then focused on working on his way up in the film industry, rather than pursuing a college degree.

Roles in movies

Rick has appeared in over 70 movies and TV series, so we’ll mention only his most notable performances in this article.

He made his debut film appearance in 1998, when he portrayed Sanchez in the drama movie “Thicker Than Blood” which starred Mickey Rourke, Dan Futterman and Carlo Alban, and which won one award and was nominated for six others. He gained attention in 2000 when he appeared in the family movie “Prince of Central Park”, which starred Kathleen Turner and Danny Aiello, and the year 2001 saw Rick appear in the action comedy movie “Crocodile Dundee in Los Angeles”.

In 2002, he played the supporting character Rudy Bonilla in the sports movie “The Rookie”, which was based on a true story, and the following year saw Rick appear in both the sports action movie “Biker Boyz” and the comedy movie “Old School”.

In 2005, he appeared in Steven Spielberg’s science fiction movie “War of the Worlds”, and in 2006 played Chillaxin’ Host in the movie “For Your Consideration”. The year 2007 saw him appear in another biographical movie – “What We Do Is Secret” – while some of his following roles were in the movie “Illegal Tender”, the crime drama mystery film “In the Valley of Elah”, and the comedy movie “The Promotion”.

Some of Rick’s latest roles which have attracted some attention have been in the road comedy movie “The Guilt Trip” released in 2012, the South Korean-American dance movie “Make Your Move” which came out in 2013 and the crime drama film “Deuces” which was released in 2017.

Roles in TV series

Rick made his debut TV series appearance in 1997, when he guest starred in the episode “Spanish Harlem” of the series “F/X: The Series”. His first notable performance came in 2001, when he portrayed Juan Figgis in four episodes of the drama series “Boston Public” which starred Loretta Devine, Anthony Heald and Fyvush Finkel, and is about 10 people working at a Boston high school who have to find time for their personal lives while dealing with the school’s trouble-makers – the series won 13 awards including one Primetime Emmy, while it was nominated for 29 others.

Rick went on to appear in single episodes of many series, such as the police procedural series “Nash Bridges” in 2001, the supernatural drama “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” in 2002, and the procedural forensics crime series “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation” in 2006. The year 2010 saw him appear in single episodes of five TV series including the police crime series “Cold Case”, the crime drama “Lie to Me” and the legal drama “The Whole Truth”.

He has appeared in episodes of over 20 TV series from 2010 to this day – some of his most notable have been in the thriller series “Mr. Robot” in 2015, the superhero series “Arrow” in which he portrayed the supporting character Rene Ramirez / Wild Dog from 2016 to 2020, and the superhero series “Legends of Tomorrow” in 2020.

Rick is also a musician – he released his debut mixtape “The Invisible Man” on 24 May 2011. and was then featured in the Sean Price’s song “Bully Rap”, which was one of the tracks on his album “Mic Tyson” released on 30 October 2012.

Love life, relationships and daughter

Rick met his future other half Sherry Aon sometime in the 2000s; their first date didn’t go that well as Sherry was full of attitude, however, Rick seemed to like her nature and after their second date, they started a relationship and have been together since. They married in a private ceremony attended by their closest friends and family in the 2010s, but have kept the date of their wedding a secret. Rick has revealed in one of his interviews that both dating and being married to Sherry hasn’t been that easy, as they often argue, but that he still loves her.

On 26 July 2013, Sherry gave birth to their daughter Skyler, and Rick has stated how he likes being a father.

He hasn’t talked about any other women he might have been with before meeting Sherry, and as of September 2020, Rick is a married man (his first marriage) and has one daughter.

Hobbies and interests

Rick is a devoted Christian who goes to church at least once a week (and thanks God for whatever good happens to him). He is physically very active, as he has four to five training sessions at the gym each week thus his muscular body – he is also following a strict diet meaning he doesn’t eat sugar nor fast food, but allows himself one cheat meal per week. He likes to play billiard with his friends, ride a horse in nature, and go hiking up the mountains. Rick is a huge fan of basketball, and paid his respects to Kobe Bryant after he died in a helicopter crash.

He is keen on travelling, and his career as an actor has made it possible for him to travel all around the USA while he and his wife have vacationed in Europe on multiple occasions, staying in countries such as France, England and Spain.

Rick has his own favorite actors and actresses, some of whom are Denzel Washington, the late Chadwick Boseman and Emma Watson, and some of his favorite movies are “The Equalizer”, “Black Panther” and the franchise “Harry Potter”.

Age and net worth

Rick’s age is 41. He has short black hair and brown eyes, his height is 5ft 8ins (1.73m) and he weighs around 150lbs (68kgs).

As of September 2020, Rick’s net worth has been estimated at over $1 million.
