Everyone loves some social media fun, particularly when it’s our favourite footballers.

In a world where players are media trained extensively it is nice to see them let loose every so often.

One of the Premier League’s new arrivals - Manchester City defender Benjamin Mendy - has announced himself as a true king of social media with his hilarious posts on Twitter recently and this got us thinking - which footballers are the funniest on social media?

Here, talkSPORT have ranked who we think are the ten wittiest players on the internet. Check out our list below.

10. Victor Anichebe

The former Sunderland and Everton striker, now of Beijing Enterprises, caught the eye on Twitter last season when he famously posted: "Can you tweet something like: 'Unbelievable support yesterday and great effort by the lads! Hard result to take! But we go again!"

Naturally it was a hilarious PR gaffe from the striker as it proved it was someone else doing the tweeting.

Unfortunately the original tweet has since been deleted but Anichebe did poke fun at himself a few weeks later by tweeting this:

9. Victor Wanyama

The Tottenham midfielder’s tweets have become folklore partly because he didn’t realise what you should use the social media platform for.

He may not have meant it but we enjoyed his spaghetti tweets hugely.

8. Mario Balotelli

Super Mario is as suitably barmy on social media as he is in real life.

Particular highlights include the video of him ironing and reading Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s book as well as that time when he couldn’t tell the gender of his pet pig.

7. Jamie Carragher

Whether he is joshing with his broadcast partner in crime Gary Neville, or getting in spats with Leicester City defenders, the former Liverpool centre-back is always entertaining.

The pundit is well known for speaking his mind no matter how brutal it may be.

6. Jonathan Walters

The Republic of Ireland international, now at Burnley following his spell at Stoke City, is another we love on Twitter.

The forward’s sense of humour is quality particularly combined with former team-mate Robert Huth (who may yet feature on this list).

5. Robert Huth

Right on cue is Leicester City defender Huth who has rapidly become part of a side-splitting double act alongside Walters.

Their exchanges are really quite something!

4. Michy Batshuayi

In all truth the Chelsea striker does spend most of his time on the bench so probably needs something to occupy his mind.

Thankfully he uses his time wisely by planning witty responses on social media - particularly with regards to his uncanny resemblance to former team-mate Nathaniel Chalobah.

3. Patrice Evra

The former Manchester United full-back has quite the love for live judging by his Instagram.

The Frenchman - now plying his trade at Marseille - and his video antics have resulted in ‘I love this game’ becoming one of the most recognisable catchphrases in football right now.

1. Peter Crouch

The undisputed king of social media - the Stoke City striker’s tweets are wonderful.

Personally we loved the snap of him with the family (a pair of giraffes).
