Flawless Salon and Medical Spa

When asked why she started Flawless Salon and Medical Spa in Butte with her husband, Erik Kinzer, Patience Peale laughed.

“When we moved back home, I was looking for a place to get medical aesthetic services and spa treatments. I couldn’t find anywhere that offered everything, so we decided to get additional training and open a med spa and salon,” she said.

Peale had also taken an entrepreneurial class in her master’s degree program, which was also during the economic downturn, and found that one industry was bucking the trend and seeing fast growth: medical aesthetics.

The pair both received nursing degrees at Montana Tech and master’s degrees from the University of Washington in Seattle. Peale holds a master’s degree in Healthcare Administration and Kinzer holds a master’s degree in Nursing. They both obtained additional training in laser techniques as well as other medical aesthetic treatments to include: Botox, Juvederm, scelerotherapy and chemical peels. In addition, they have employees who provide a full menu of salon services.

That’s not to say starting a business from scratch was easy for them.

“It was hard,” she said. “We are both still working full time plus. We both work at the spa, Erik works full time in emergency medicine and I teach at Montana Tech. We also have four children. So it was pretty hectic to start, it is still kind of crazy, but it is all well worth it.”

Next on their plate are fast approaching expansion plans. This spring, renovations at the Copper King Hotel are expected to be complete, and with it will come a second location for Flawless Medical Spa. With this expansion, they are adding to their menu, focusing more on spa treatments such as massage, body scrubs and wraps, and much more. When the location is complete, Peale anticipates having 13 employees between both locations.

“It’ll give us a chance to expand,” Peale said. “We’ve used all of our space in our current location. We’ll be able to have more services and more room for customers each day, and it’s downtown, so for people who might not come uptown it offers two locations.”

It doesn’t hurt that the Copper King is doing the hard work for them, Peale said.

“When we started, my husband did all of our remodeling,” she said. “It’s nice that out there the professionals are doing it for us.”

Peale said she treats all of her customers like family.

“I think we can really cater to our customers and treat them like they’re part of our Flawless family. We pretty much know everyone’s name — and we have a lot — but our goal is to create a personalized experienced,” she said, noting that Flawless Medical Spa has close to 6,000 individual customers in its database. “Our big success has been really positive word of mouth.”

Peale took a moment to reflect.

“Butte’s been kind to us,” she said.

“When we started, my husband did all of our remodeling. It’s nice that out there the professionals are doing it for us.”
