Clark County School Bus Accident: How It Happened
The incident occurred at approximately 8:16 a.m. on State Route 41, one of Northwestern Local Schools’ elementary routes. A school bus carrying 52 children was involved in the crash. According to Ohio State Highway Patrol Sgt. Tyler Ross, a Honda Odyssey was headed east but veered into the opposite westbound lane, where the school bus was. To avoid the car, the bus moved onto the shoulder, but they still collided. Following the impact, the school bus veered off the right side of the road and overturned. The Honda also left the road on the right side and eventually came to a stop. Tragically, one student was thrown from the bus during the collision and lost their life at the scene.
A total of 23 students were brought to the hospital after the accident, with 13 being taken there by the emergency response team and 10 by their family members. Among them, one student is seriously hurt and has been sent to the Children’s Hospital, while the injuries of the other 22 students seem less severe.
The two individuals in the Honda, Hermanio Joseph (age 35) and Roberto Mompremier (age 37), who were involved in the accident as driver and passenger, were also taken to the Springfield Regional Medical Center. Fortunately, their injuries are not life-threatening.
The bus driver, recognized as 68-year-old Alfred E. Collier, sustained minor injuries; however, authorities stated that he did not require hospitalization.
